Obituary

Thelma Mae Batts Sholar, 85, of Chinquapin, left this life for her eternal rest on Sunday, June 16, 2013 from Quinn Hospice Care Center in Kenansville.

She was born December 23, 1927 in Duplin County and was the daughter of the late Charlie and Beulah Cole Batts. She was predeceased by her husband, Timothy "Tim" J. Sholar, Sr.; her sister, Ludie Cavenaugh and daughter-in-law, Cherry Squires Sholar.

Thelma was retired from J.P. Steven Textiles and enjoyed her retirement years babysitting as long as her health permitted.

Surviving is her devoted son, Timothy Jackson "Jackie" Sholar, Jr. of Kelly; grandson, Timothy Neal Sholar of Leland; brother, James William Batts of Chinquapin and numerous nieces, nephews and children who lovingly called her "Granny".

Funeral service will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with Pastor Louise Wood and Pastor Willie Robinson officiating.

Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park in Watha.

Casketbearers will be Mark Batts, Gordon Cavenaugh, Gary Hatcher, James Hatcher, Davin Riley and Tucker Whitfield.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Monday evening at the funeral home and other times at Thelma's home.

Thelma was a loving mother and caring grandmother and sister who loved her family dearly. She enjoyed the outside and growing vegetables all around her house. Being a great cook and wonderful homemaker, Thelma filled her home with love and welcomed all who entered. She enjoyed cooking for her family and preparing meals to share with others as needed. When Thelma's health permitted she enjoyed attending church and babysitting. Thelma's family is grateful to God for her life and for your kindness, friendship and prayers.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial gifts be given to Quinn Hospice Care Center, Carolina East Foundation, PO Box 887, Kenansville, NC 28349.
