Thomas Wilson Barnes, age 89, of Wilmington passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter.

He was born October 23, 1926 in Henry County, Virginia the son of the late Jerry Barnes and Annie Odell Barnes. He is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife Annie Ruth Dillon Barnes and sister, Opal Barnes Ferguson.

Thomas served his country proudly in the United States Army During World War II. He was employed with and retired from a long and fulfilling career with DuPont that allowed him to travel extensively. This love for travel also was found in his home life where he was able to show his family the beauty of the United States during family trips. His life was dedicated to his family and because of his devotion toward them a legacy of love will live on. Thomas was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Wilmington.

Left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Thomas Wilson Barnes, Jr. and Wife Marsha, of Lebanon, TN, Jerry Dillon Barnes and wife Suzanne of Seaford, DE and Kenneth Dee Barnes and wife Elizabeth of Wilmington, NC; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and numerous other loving family and friends.

A memorial service will be held 3PM Sunday, October 23, 2016 Quinn McGowen Wilmington Chapel with Reverend Adam Baker and Reverend Margaret Hockett officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to Hope Abounds Inc., Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation or Wesley Memorial UMC.
