Thomas \\"Tom\\" Bordeaux Carr, 77, of Penderlea, NC passed away on Monday, April 4, 2011 at his home with his loving family at his side.
He was the youngest of six children, born on May 14, 1933 in Duplin County to William and Gladys Pickett Carr. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joann; his parents and his brother, Dawson Carr.
Tom faithfully served his country in the United States Army for 28 years, with three tours of duty in Korea and two tours in Vietnam, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 3. He was a faithful member of New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
In his retirement, Tom enjoyed remodeling his country home and being a handyman in his community. His garden, fruit trees and grapes were a passion for him, as he loved sharing them. He also loved fishing at Topsail Island, where he and Julie spent many happy days at their beach home. Tom was a simple man with simple pleasures, who loved God, his family, and his friends.
Surviving are his wife, Julie Eldridge Carr; son, Thomas B. "Chip" Carr, Jr. (Lynn) of Penderlea; daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" Simpson (Mike) of Wilmington; granddaughters, Jessica Carr, Stacey Carr, and Amanda Simpson; grandson, Jesse Simpson; great-granddaughter, Jaylee; great-grandson, Kayden; step-children, Robin Roller (Rick) of Rocky Point, Linda White (Don) and Steven Eldridge (Kathryn) all of Burgaw; brothers, William "Bill" Carr, Jr. (Flo) of Camden and Charles Carr (Doris) of Ethel, LA; sisters who are twins, Eris Nagel (Eddie) of Wilmington and Joyce Freeman of Watha and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Burgaw with The Rev. Joe Pasquarell officiating.
