Vernon Edworth Brown, age 78, of Burgaw peacefully passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Davis Health Care.

He was born October 26, 1931 in Willard, the son of the late Foster James and Gertrude Piner Brown. Also remembered are his infant son, Christopher Robin Brown; granddaughter, Rosanna Grace Brown; brother, Norman Brown and sister, Christine Brown.

Surviving are his loving family; his wife of 60 years, June Woodcock Brown; children, Brenda Spivey (David) of Harrells, Renee Walker (Tom) of Wilmington, Randy Brown (Rosa) and Craig Brown (Tonya) all of Burgaw; grandchildren, Sean Pope (Linda), Joshua Pope, Mackenzie Spivey, Trey Walker, Matt Walker, Bradley Brown, Cody Brown and Kelsey Brown; great grandson, Aaron Pope; brother, Edward Brown of Burgaw; sister, Myrtle Caison of Wallace; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vernon served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired after 32 years with Babcock & Wilcox Company. He also worked 10 years with Pender County Schools Transportation Department.

Vernon was a devoted husband and loving daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend. His family was his joy in life; he taught his children honesty, how to work and how to live. He enjoyed the outdoors especially working in his yard and garden. Cherished memories of Vernon will forever remain in our hearts.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 6, 2010 at Burgaw Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. Ray Mendenhall officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
