Victor Claude

May 5, 1925 — Jan 4, 2013
Victor Claude Evans, Jr., 87, of Burgaw passed peacefully from his earthy life to his eternal rest on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center.
He was born May 5, 1925 in Holt, Alabama and was the son of the late Victor Claude Evans and Nola Wallace Evans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loraine Hamilton Evans; brother, Claude Thomas Evans and sister, Lolita Evans.
Victor is survived by his wife, Sherry Lambert-Evans; sons, Claude Thomas "Tommy" Evans of Florida, Mathew Lambert and Timothy Lambert both of Burgaw; daughter, Laurel Lambert (Chris) of Burgaw; grandson, Adam Lambert; brother, Rudolph "Rudy" Evans (Bobbie) of Jackson, TN; and sister, Nolena McBray of Mobile, AL.
Victor served his county honorably in the US Navy for 30 years, serving during WW II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era, retiring as Lieutenant Commander. Before the age of 21 he had fought in nine major battles and became a Master Diver while in the military. For a number of years following his military career he owned a diver and salvage company. He felt his working life was not complete until he moved to Pender County to try his hand at farming. He excelled in all of his life's ventures. While living in the rural area of Pender County he joined and was a faithful member of Mount Holly Baptist Church.
Victor was a man with a zest for life who lived his life to the fullest. He loved and cared for his family and was a friend to many. His smile, his kindness, his wonderful sense of humor, and his faith in his Lord were all traits that endeared him to family and friends. Fond memories of Victors will always remain in our hearts.
