Obituary

Viola Potts Sutton, age 88, of Burgaw and formerly of Mosley, Virginia died Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Huntington Health Care of Burgaw.

She was born December 10, 1921 in Wayne County and was the daughter of the late Jasper M. and Vida Walker Potts. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leddell Sutton; sister, Julia Mae Casey; and brothers, J. M. Potts, Jr., The Rev. Rufus Potts and Paul Potts.

Viola is survived by her nephews and nieces, Robert Casey, Farrell Casey, Leddell Casey, Isabella Hough, Maurine Coudriet and Vida Gail Campbell.

Mrs. Sutton was a life long member of Emmaus Baptist Church in Dudley. For many years prior to her retirement she was a beautician in Richmond, Virginia.

Viola was a very strong willed, independent Southern lady who loved her family and was a steadfast friend. With her witty, feisty personality she made friends easily and one always knew where they stood with Viola. She was an animal lover and many years ago she had a beloved canine companion, a Chihuahua named Baby. Cherished memories of Viola will always remain in our hearts.

Graveside funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Emmaus Baptist Church Cemetery with The Rev. Jack Ruth officiating.

The family will receive friends 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw and from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the cemetery.
