Virginia "Doodle" Carr Byrd, age 87, of Rose Hill died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC.

She was born March 10, 1920 in Duplin County and was the daughter of the late Osborn and Ellen Wells Carr of Wallace. She was also predeceased by her husband, David O. Byrd, Sr. on October 20, 1992.

Mrs. Byrd was a life-long member of Oak Plain Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her devoted family; son and daughter-in-law, David and Temple Byrd of Garland; daughters and sons-in-law, the Reverends Mary Ellen and Frank Gordon of Candler and the Reverends Virginia "Frankie" and Robert Peurifoy of Boone; grandchildren, David Graham Byrd, Hannah Gordon Randall, Sarah Gordon Mack, Rebekah Peurifoy and Nathan Peurifoy; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Ellen "Obbie" Clemmons of Raleigh.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Oak Plain Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Nancy Gladden officiating with Mr. Edgar Wells assisting.

Burial will follow in Oak Plain Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace.

There will be a memorial service for Mrs. Byrd 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at Faithbridge United Methodist Church.
