Virginia Cowan Herring, age 95, of Burgaw passed gently from her earthly life to her eternal rest on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 28, 1915 in Pender County to the late John Tate Cowan, Sr. and Janie Brothers Cowan. Also remembered are her husband, Robert Herring; four sisters and one brother.
Virginia is survived by her loving family: her children, Robert Everette Herring (Carroll) of Wilmington, John Morris Herring (Sheila) of Burgaw, Kay Henderson (Larry) of Burgaw and Janice Eyerman (Jim) of Lakeland, FL; ten grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Herring was a faithful member of Burgaw Baptist Church. For many years, as long as her health permitted Virginia was a member of Pender County Extension Homemakers.
Virginia was blessed with a loving family that she loved so dearly all of her life. Cherished memories of Virginia will forever remain in our hearts.
Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2010 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Craig Morrison and The Rev. Dr. Wayne Dyer officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
Casketbearers were Russell Herring, Robin Herring, John Herring, Aaron Herring, Dean Herring, Bobby Hayes and James Lewis.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw and at other times will be at Mrs. Herring's residence.
