Obituary

Virginia Malpass Whaley, age 80, of Rocky Point and formerly of Pink Hill died Monday, February 11, 2008 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born May 24, 1927 in Duplin County, the daughter of the late Lucius and Dora Clark Malpass. She was also predeceased by her husband, Harvey Lee Whaley and son Danny Whaley.

Mrs. Whaley was a member of Gospel Fellowship Holiness Church. Virginia was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and sister who was loved and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are her loving family; children, Gail Vance and husband, David, of Pink Hill, Barry Whaley and wife, Gloria of Rocky Point and Deborah Garner of Kinston; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-four great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; brother, Marvin Malpass and wife, Awylda, of Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Pastor Billy Cooper and Pastor Gary Eldridge officiating.

Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.

Casketbearers will be J. D. Caison, Buddy Griffin, David Vance, Donald Caison, Jason Creech, Curtis Harper and Kenny Barrow.
