Obituary

Waitus Carroll "W.C." English, Jr. of 1154 Ed Cowan Road, Burgaw, NC passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born on October 24, 1939 in Duplin County, NC to Waitus C. English, Sr. and Morie Lee Norris English. W.C. grew up in Bowdens, NC and was in the first graduating class of James Kenan High School. He and his family were charter members of Calvary Baptist Church in Warsaw, NC. W.C. and family moved to Virginia Creek in Pender County in 1962. While living there, he was a member of Barlow-Vista Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and was a deacon for many years. In 1997, he moved to Burgaw, NC where he later was a founding member of Mission Baptist Church.

W.C. earned a Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina College and taught Industrial Arts at Dixon High School for almost three years. After that, he worked for 40 years as an insurance adjustor, ending his career owning his own business, English Claims Service. In that career he made lifelong friends who have expressed memories of how readily he spoke of his assurance in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and his confidence in his salvation. He lived a true Christian example of God, family, and service. W.C. created a legacy that will last through generations of his family. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the principle that it is never right to do wrong and never wrong to do right.

Left to cherish W.C.'s memory is the love of his life, his wife of 60 years, Helen Cooke English. He is also  survived by sons, Waitus C. English III (Kathy) and Vann English (Angela); and daughter, Sheryl Cauley (Robbie). He was Papa to grandchildren, Waitus "Ivey" English IV (Katie), Clancey English (Regan), Elizabeth Mantooth (Travis), Sarah Williams (Lee), Caitlin Norris (Alex), Will Cauley (Emily), and Erin Morilee Cauley; step-grandchildren, Rita Head and Bonita Vela; great grandchildren, Waitus C. "W.V." English V, Hiram English and Graham Norris; step great grandchildren, Ben Head (Lauren), Mark Head (Kelsey), Jessica Fowler (Paul), Blake Lanier (Hannah), and Mackenzie Robinson; and seven step great great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Ann English.

W.C. is predeceased by his parents and a brother, Myron English.
