Wesley Franklin "Frank" Johnson, 75, of Atkinson passed peacefully from this earth to his eternal rest on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at his home.

He was born May 12, 1935 in Pender County, the son of the late John Wesley and Ethel Woodcock Johnson. Frank was preceded in death by a sister, Addie Mae Horrell.

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Kay Barnhill Johnson; sisters, Inez Covil of Burgaw, Nellie Hiers (Jim) of Jackson, SC, Martha Rooks of Rocky Point and Kay Jordan (Johnny) of Atkinson; brother, Lee Roy Johnson (Alice) of Atkinson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Atkinson Baptist Church and was a retired Pender County farmer. Frank served his country proudly in the US Army Reserves.

Frank was a devoted husband and excellent brother, uncle and friend. Frank loved family gatherings; tilling the soil to grow sweet potatoes and peanuts; and taking trips with his dear Kay and her family. With a great sense of humor Frank made friends easily and kept them for a life time. Special in Frank and Kay's life was their dog, Sandy. Remembered will be Frank's faith in the Lord, love for his family, his sweet smile, twinkle in his eye and gentle laughter.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Atkinson Baptist Church with The Rev. Douglas Warnock officiating. Burial will follow in Haw Bluff Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
