Willanna Ince Humphreys, age 87, of Wallace, North Carolina died Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Pender Memorial Hospital.
She was born on November 10, 1923 in Louisiana, Missouri and was the daughter of the late James N. and Janie Ince. She was also predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Billy Humphreys; their beloved baby son, Billy Dale Humphreys; sister, Rene Ince Gilliland and brother, Everett Ince.
Winnie, as she was better known, lived in Louisiana from birth to 1942, when she moved to St. Louis, Missouri after graduating from high school. In St. Louis she worked for Emerson Electric, where they made parts essential to the war effort.
In May, 1943 she married Billy Humphreys. Together they had three children, Dorwin Dennis and Bill Dale Humphreys, who were twins, and daughter Valerie Jean Humphreys Turner. After her husband, Billy died in 1986, Winnie later moved to Stafford Springs, Connecticut to make her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Joe Turner. While in Stafford Springs she made many friends and enjoyed playing bridge and other card games. In 2007, she moved with her daughter and son-in-law to Wallace.
Winnie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dorwin and Sheryl, of Yucca Valley, California and her daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Joe Turner of Wallace; two grandsons, David of Nevada, Chris and his wife, Kristie of Arkansas; two dear great-grandchildren, Dylan Humphreys of Nevada and Holly Ann Humphreys of Arkansas; a dear sister, Jane Ince Sitton of Louisiana, Missouri and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in Winnie's honor at the River Landing members room on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 5:30 pm in Wallace, North Carolina with burial in Louisiana, Missouri.
