William "Bill" Penn Marshburn, age 85, of Maple Hill passed from his earthly life Monday, February 19, 2024.
He was born March 22, 1938 in Pender County, the son of the late William Robert and Virginia Powers Marshburn.
Bill is survived by his wife of 40 years, Roxanne Walsh Marshburn; cousin, Elizabeth James Dunn and husband, Dr. Thaddeus Dunn; sister-in-law, Beth Ann Takacs (Michael); brother-in-law, Edward "Ned" Walsh (Janet); special niece, Amy Stock who lived with Roxanne and Bill for a short time; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill retired as an analyst with the US Government. He was a current and faithful member of St. Mary's Episcopal-Lutheran Church and past member of Maple Hill Presbyterian Church where he served on the Session.
Bill's sense of selflessness and kindness carried him throughout his life. He committed himself to many and various volunteer opportunities. He was past member of Burgaw Lion's Club, past president of Burgaw Rotary Club, and served on the SEAHEC Board at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Currently he was president of Board of Directors of Black River Health Services, vice president of Pender Adult Services Board of Directors, treasurer of Senior TarHeels, and member of Board of Directors of Smart Start of Pender County, just to mention a few of Bill's endeavors and devotion to his community after he and Roxanne moved back to Pender County. Bill was known for his wisdom, thoughtfulness, generosity, and humility, and for his great devotion to family, loyalty to friends, and faithful service to his church and community.
The family will receive friends at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal-Lutheran Church on Saturday, February 24, 2024 with service beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Phillip Craig, Jr. and The Rev. Nancy Jose will conduct the service.
Interment will follow in Burgaw Cemetery.
