Obituary

William "Billy" Johnston, age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he loved on Friday, April 28, 2023. He grew up in Rocky Point and was the son of the late Albert and Claudia Johnston. Billy was a member of King Solomon Lodge #138 A.F. & A.M. in Burgaw where he served his lodge and community as a Freemason for over 50 years. During that time, Billy earned his York and Scottish Rites which help him reach his 32nd degree in Freemasonry. Billy had a successful career as a salesperson in the Hardware Industry.

Billy is survived by his wife, Gail of 54 years; five daughters, Mary W. Boyd and husband, Tim, Deloris Fuller and husband, Frank, Patricia Cottle, Donna Zoglman and husband, Dave, and Susan Aiken and husband, Scott; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many dear friends that he leaves behind.

A funeral to celebrate the life of William "Billy"  L. Johnston will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 2PM in Northside Church in Wilmington. The Rev. Rob Strickland will officiate with burial following in the Union Chapel Cemetery in Rocky Point.

The Johnston family will receive friends on Wednesday evening 5PM – 8PM at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home - Burgaw Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Union Chapel Cemetery, in c/o Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church, 10255 US Highway 17, Wilmington, NC 28411
