Obituary

William F. Dixon, also known as "Wimpy" or "Bill", age 68, of Burgaw died Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Pender Memorial Hospital.

He was born January 29, 1940 in Duplin County and was the son of the Ralph and Ruby Simmons Dixon.

Mr. Dixon served his country honorably in the US Air Force and was a retired correctional officer with the NC Department of Corrections. He was also employed as a radio disc jockey for seventeen years with radio stations in the surrounding areas and a member of Forrest Hills Baptist Church.

Surviving are his devoted wife of forty-four years, Linda Marritt Dixon of the home; his loving children, Joy E. Fincannon and husband, James of Rocky Point and William "Bill" F. Dixon, Jr. of Wallace; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one half-brother and half-sister.

Funeral service was 2:00 pm Friday, February 1, 2008 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with the Reverend Leo Bracken and the Reverend Tim Cook officiating.

Burial followed with military honors in Pin Hook Cemetery in Teachey.

Casketbearers were William F. Dixon, Jr., James Fincannon, Brett Likens, Harold Likens, Charles Bryant and Andrew D. Fisher.

The family received friends 1:00 to 2:00 pm Friday, one hour prior the funeral service at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Wallace.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Dixon's family request that memorial gifts be sent to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center, 2222 S. 17th Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
