William Thomas "T.J." Mattox, age 20, of Rose Hill died Sunday, October 21, 2012 in Rose Hill.

T.J. was born November 28, 1991 in Duplin County and was the son of Amy Jones Smith (Bryant) of Wallace and Thomas Benson (Cherie) of Charlotte.

Surviving to cherish his memory in addition to his parents is his brother, Harley Mattox; sister, Autumn Mattox; half-sister, Danielle Mattox; grandparents, Glenn and Judy Jones of Rose Hill; Keith and Charlene Frye of Alabama, Norman and Ellen Bland of Virginia and Jeff Usher of Rose Hill; great grandparents, William "W.R" and Susie Jones of Wallace; great grandmother, Helen Rouse of Rose Hill; special aunt, Sommer Jones; niece, Karsyn Smith; step-sisters, Audrie Outlaw and Lydia McCormick and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

T.J. was a caring son, brother and grandson who loved his family dearly. He was an energetic young man who enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. With his outgoing and witty personality, you just could not help but love him. T.J. never met a stranger and always saw the best in others. He could always brighten your day with his warm smile and his big blue eyes. He enjoyed music, sports and hanging out with his friends. T.J.'s family is grateful to God for his life and for the joy he brought to each of them. He will surely be missed but cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved T.J.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday, October 26, 2012 at Rose Hill PFWB Church with the Reverend Jack Melvin officiating.

Burial will follow in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery, Wallace.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday evening at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace.
