William James "Jimmy" Murphy, 82, of Willard left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Sunday, August 2, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 15, 1932 in Duplin County and was the son of the late James Repton and Selma Rooks Murphy. He was also predeceased by his brother, Nelson Murphy.
Jimmy proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and also in the National Guard. He loved his Lord and his church family and was a dedicated member of Watha Baptist Church.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his best friend and devoted wife of 60 years, Sue Rackley Murphy; his loving children, Diane Albertson and husband, Jimmy of Surf City, Michael Murphy and wife, Jennifer of Burgaw and Susan McKeown and husband, Ed of Thailand; grandchildren, Cristy Bain and husband, James, Kellen Moghaddam and husband, Michael, Micah Howell and husband, Charlie, Dana Murphy, Joshua McKeown, Matthew McKeown and Viktoria McKeown; great grandchildren, Oliver Bain, Matton Bain, Miles Bain, Avah Moghaddam, Eliza Moghaddam and Kenna Moghaddam; brothers, Douglas Murphy of Castle Hayne and Jimmy Rackley and wife, Jean of Richmond, VA; sister, Annie Catherine Morrison of Louisiana and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Jimmy was a loving husband, Daddy, PawPaw, brother and friend. He found great joy in his family and served the Lord faithfully. Jimmy was a wonderful friend to all, and a true servant. He lived his life based on Christian principles and instilled Christian values in his children. Jimmy was active in his church through the years and was blessed with a love for the Lord and a faith that took him through an extended illness. Jimmy was dedicated to his family, church and community and always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. A man of great integrity, Jimmy will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with the Reverend Edward McKeown and the Reverend Macon Wood officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately follow the service at the funeral home.
