William "Duke" Joseph Bell, 70, of Currie passed peacefully on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at home in the care of his loving family.

He was born April 11, 1947 in Onslow County, the son of Retha Belle Smallwood and the late Ebin Joseph Bell.

In addition to his mother, Duke is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathy Miller Bell; children, Iris B. Rosenberger (Jodie), Patrick Bell (Mary), Katie Rosenberger, Joey Rosenberger (Brittney), and Darby Bell; grandchildren, Woody Council and Ryan Bell; great grandchildren, Steven, April, Skylar, Adam, and Aidyn; sisters, Gloria Yarborough (Charlie) and Teresa Brown (Buddy); brother, Butch Bell (June); and many extended family and friends.

William served his country proudly with honor in the US Navy for 30 years, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. In the military he was proficient as a jet airplane mechanic.

Duke was a loving and kind husband, daddy, son, granddaddy and friend. He was a beacon of love, laughter, and genuine kindness to all who crossed his path in life. He never met a stranger and was quick to offer his smile, words of encouragement, or the shirt off of his back. Once he met you, you were forever in his heart and he in yours. His greatest gift was his love of family and the joy he brought others through his laughter with the warmth of his love and friendship that he offered freely.

A Celebration of Duke's Life will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Burgaw Community Building, 102 E. Wilmington Street, Burgaw, NC.
