William "Billy" Otha Smith, 73, of Burgaw passed gently from his earthly life Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at his home surrounded by family.

He was born August 28, 2021 in Southport, the son of the late Other and Margaret Long Smith. Also preceding  Billy in death is his son, William "Little Billy" O. Smith, Jr.

Billy is survived by his wife, Susan Evans Smith; daughter, Theresa Ballard; sons, Michael Allen Evans and William Oliver Smith; grandchildren, Brittany Nichole Evans, Michaela Anne Evans, William Octavius Smith and Phoenix Cadann Smith; sisters, Sandra Cross (Billy) and Patricia Wilson; brothers, David Smith and Gerry Smith; special first cousins, Willard and William Milliken; best friends, Delton, Clyde and Richard; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Not to be forgotten are his canine companions, Baby Girl, Susie and Buster.

As a career, Billy was an excellent lifelong auto mechanic. He enjoyed dirt track racing and was the mechanic for "The Milliken Team". He also took time for his second favorite pastime, fishing. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
