William Albert Sutherland, age 81, of Wilmington passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove.

He was born August 8, 1935 in Manhattan, New York the son of the late Albert Sutherland and Angela Magnotta Sutherland.

Mr. Sutherland served his country proudly in the United States Army. William lived in Bay Shore, New York up until four years ago when he and his wife of 59 years decided to move to Wilmington, North Carolina. He was a talented musician and played the guitar for years while entertaining generations with the beloved songs of the Beatles, Chicago and countless others.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sheila Sutherland; children, kathleen Sutherland, Jeanne Sutherland, Patricia Sutherland and William Sutherland and wife Coleen; brother, Richard White; sisters, Deanne Huguenel, Joan McShane (Thomas), Barbara Hausman (John); seven grandchildren; nine great grandchidren; and numerous other loving family members.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Monday, September 12, 2016 at Quinn McGowen Wilmington Chapel.

A funeral mass will be held at 9:00 AM Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 6650 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington NC 28412. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington, NC.
