William Walter
Watson
Sep 7, 1937 — Nov 17, 2012
William Walter Watson, age 75, of Watha passed from this earthly life to a new life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from Lower Cape Fear Hospice and CareCenter.
Born on September 7, 1937 in Bladen County, he was the son of the late Herbert Owen and Addie Mae Sholar Watson. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia Lee Watson Hall and granddaughter, Amanda Lee Hall.
Mr. Watson served his country honorably for over 37 years in the US Air Force and US Civil Service.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 54 years, Gloria Jean Teachey Watson; son, William David Watson and wife, Lola of Watha; daughter, Sharon Renee Watson Usher and fiancé, Jeffery Rivenbark of Rose Hill; grandsons, SSgt. William Thomas Watson of Browns Mill, NJ, William Gerald Giddings and Matthew Dale Giddings, both of Rose Hill; granddaughters, Stephanie Lynn Hall of Bakersville, CA and Winter Faith Gregson of Sanford; brother, Floyd Allen Watson and wife, Barbara of North Augustus, SC and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
His love for his wife, children, grandchildren, country and God was very evident in his everyday life. Being a hard worker, Willis, as he was affectionately called, was great provider and always saw to the needs of his family before himself. He enjoyed meeting people which is why he really enjoyed selling and delivering cars for Bill Carone Chevolet-Buick-Ford. In addition to taking care of his family, Willis also loved and spoiled his canine companion, Waldo. A man of great integrity, Willis will be missed by all who knew him. His keen sense of humor, zest for life and charitable spirit helped him cultivate enduring friendships that will never be forgotten. His friends and family are comforted knowing that Willis has moved on from this life to a much fuller one that he now has with God through eternity.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with the Reverend Sharon Morrow and the Reverend William Mears officiating.
Graveside service will follow with full military honors accorded by the US Air Force at Watha United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am, one hour prior the funeral service at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home and other times at Willis and Gloria's home.
The Watson family extends a special thank you to the staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice for all the compassion and kindness they gave to Willis and his family during this most difficult time.
