William Gerald Whitley, 73, of Rocky Point passed peacefully from his earthly life on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born December 26, 1943 in Lenoir County, the son of the late Ralph Renn Whitley and Mamie Estelle White Whitley.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 20 years, Peggy S. Whitley; brothers, Donald Whitley (Sue) and Larry Whitley (Bobbie); several nephews; and many extended family.

He was a member of Moores Creek Baptist Church. Most recently Gerald was employed with Howard's RV which led Gerald and Peggy to travel many miles and visit interesting places in their RV.

Gerald was a loving and thoughtful husband, brother and uncle. He made friends easily as he enjoyed laughter, joking and being around people. Gerald lived life to the fullest and was always positive and looking for the best in everything and everyone. A great joy in Gerald and Peggy's life was bicycling on long road trips to interesting places. Gerald blessed the lives of many and leaves a legacy of laughter, love, and kindness.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Moores Creek Baptist Church. Following the service the family will receive friends. Pastor Roger Barnes will conduct the service.
