Willie Harold Woodcock, age 78, of Atkinson passed peacefully from this earth at his home on Wednesday, November 10, 2010.

He was born April 2, 1932 in Pender County, the son of the late Manuay L. and Agnes Malpass Woodcock. Also preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Tyndall; sister, Elsie Barnhill; brothers, Stacy Woodcock, Everett Woodcock, Danny Woodcock, and Lewis Woodcock.

Surviving are his daughters, Linda Jones of the home, Barbara (Jeff) Ezzell and Teresa Woodcock both of Rose Hill; son, Willie H. Woodcock, Jr. of Rose Hill; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Janice Norris of Penderlea, Sarah Atkinson of Burgaw, Dixie Malpass, Daisy Kelly and Drucille King all of Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews.

Harold was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Wilmington. He served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

Harold loved his family and showed it in his own quiet way. Everyone remembers Harold's vegetable stand in Atkinson where one could sit down for a visit as well as buy fresh vegetables, boiled peanuts and hand shelled pecans. Even with his arthritis Harold continued to work selling vegetables and doing wood work, making outdoor chairs, tables and swings. Harold was a good man, a quiet man who gave and shared with others in his own unassuming way. Cherished memories of Harold will forever remain in our hearts.

Graveside funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday, November 12, 2010 at Woodcock Cemetery with The Rev. Merrell McKoy officiating. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
