Obituary

Winford Burnell Wells, age 83, of Watha died unexpectedly Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at his home.

He was born November 14, 1925 in Pender County, the son of the late Floyd Luther and Lotia Dell Rivenbark Wells. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Annie Worrell, Louise Rivenbark, and Hazel Pierce; and brother, Bailey Wells.

Surviving are his devoted wife of 35 years, Nell Cobb Wells of the home; nieces, Delores (Don) Lundquist of South Carolina, Marquetta "Kitty" (Joe) Worrell of South Carolina, Arlene Worrell of South Carolina, Susie (Ray) Loftis of Wilmington, Marinas (Byron) Jones of Fairview, Julie (Jamie) Moore of Teachey, Debbie (Ronnie) Godwin of Burgaw, Hope Cobb of Wilmington, Dawn (Joe) Heron of Maryland, and Denica O'Neil of Ohio; nephews, Don (Betty) Wells of Florida, Franklin (Doreen) Worrell of Virginia, Terry (Joanne) Worrell of Rocky Point, Roger (Teresa) Rivenbark of Watha, Robert Rivenbark of Watha and Brent (Katie) Cobb of Greenville; many great nieces; great nephews; great great niece and great great nephews.

Mr. Wells served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. For many years Burnell was a building contractor in Pender County. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Wallace Branch and was blessed with a strong faith.

Burnell was a devoted husband and loved his family dearly. In years past he loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors in God's beautiful woods. A favorite pastime was riding with his dog in his four wheeler. Burnell loved having a vegetable garden and sharing the fruits of his labors. Spending time with his nieces and nephews brought joy to his life. Fond memories of Burnell will forever remain in our hearts.

Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2009 at Riverview Memorial Park with The Rev. Byron Jones officiating.

Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
