Winston Edward Gurganious, Sr., age 63, of Currie died Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born February 14, 1944 in Pender County, the son of the late Winston Allen and Vancey Norris Gurganious. He was also predeceased by sisters, Penney Dix, Ruth Blackburn, Nina Fales and Alice McArtan and brothers, Ottis and Dallas Gurganious.
Mr. Gurganious served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam Era.
Surviving are his sons, Winston E. "Junior" Gurganious, Jr. and wife, Millie of Currie, Wayne Gurganious and wife, Brenda of Burgaw, and Barry Gurganious and friend, Helen of Willard; step-children, James Thomas Blanton of Louisiana, David Blanton and wife, Melinda of Ivanhoe, Debbie Blanton of Kenansville, and Patricia Blanton of Bolivia; nine grandchildren; one great grandson, brothers, Albert Gurganious of Currie and Franklin Gurganious of Watha; sisters, Ruby Johnson of Watha, Hilda Smith and Vancey Dyson both of Wilmington, Nettie Speir of Burgaw and Erma Fender of Suffolk, VA.; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2007 at Gurganious Cemetery on Shiloh Road, Watha with The Rev. Joseph Parnell officiating.
Casketbearers will be James Gurganious, David Gurganious, Timothy Gurganious, Michael Gurganious, Danny Blanton and Donald Blanton.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw and at other times will be at the home of Franklin and Betty Gurganious.
