Alice Marie Durham

Alice Marie Durham, 93, of Wilmington passed peacefully from her earthly life Saturday, May 14, 2022, at her home.

Marie was born April 26, 1929, in Wilkes County, the daughter of Edgar Hayes and Vertie Watts Hayes. In addition to her parents Marie was preceded in death by her sister, Thelma Lovette; and brother, Eugene Hayes.

Marie is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Billy Durham; daughter, Stephanie McClain; son, Stephen Durham and his wife, Carol; grandchildren, Brandon Durham, Rebecca Cozart (Charlie), Cameron McClain (Kristi), Adam McClain (Megan), Brady McClain (Cassidy); great grandchildren, Cora, Weston, Reese, Myla, and Kiernan; brother, Bruce Hayes; several nieces and nephews; and additional extended family members.                      

Marie enjoyed 93 years of joy, love, and sharing, and lived her life in a meaningful way day by day. She cherished time spent with her husband, family, and dear friends, and loved her church families in the different places they lived. She touched many lives in her service to the Lord. Family activities with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren always put a sparkle in her eyes and a smile on her face.

Marie was blessed with a creative side that included singing, playing the piano, painting, and crocheting; talents that she always shared with others. Probably one her favorite activities was spending time on the water. Being on the boat that shared her name, the Alice Marie, with her husband, and sometimes family and friends, was always a treasured and special time. Marie was a joy and left this world a better place for having passed through.  

A Graveside Service will be held at Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Lomax, NC on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at 2:00pm.
