Allen Sykes

     David Allen Sykes, age 47, our beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and dear friend has left our world way too soon. On Tuesday, November 15, 2022 he went to join the angels in God’s heavenly home.

     He was born December 20, 1974 in Wilmington, the son of Joyce Sykes and the late David Earl Sykes.

     In addition to Allen’s mother Joyce, Allen is survived by his loving family: sisters Tammy Sullivan (Matt) and Shannon Meyer (Rich); nieces and nephews, Paige Ramos, Miriam Walker (Johnathan), Emilee Cotten (Jonathan), Abbigail Bogan ( Dean), and Zachary Hall; five grand-nieces and grand-nephews;  several uncles; many cousins; and other extended family members; along with many devoted friends.

    Allen was an inspiration and a joy to know. At the age of 17 Allen became a paraplegic and through the years he learned well how to best deal with his disability. He was “happy-go-lucky” and had a quirky sense of humor that uplifted everyone he came in contact with – family, friends, caregivers, and many others. Who but Allen would think to sit on the front porch and shoot squirrels to cook for dinner. Allen loved the Lord and often lifted others up in prayer.  When Allen was no longer able to physically attend church services at Coras Grove PFWB Church, he would watch the services online. Most of all Allen loved his family, each and every one.

     A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2022 at Coras Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Little conducting the service. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.

     The family would like to extend their love, appreciation and a special thank-you to Lauren Jones (Allen’s CNA for past three years) and Ashley Hedrick (friend and EMS).
