Allyson High-Johnson Obituary

Allyson High-Johnson, age 65, of Burgaw passed gently from her earthly life Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at East Carolina University Health Medical Center in Greenville.

Allyson, affectionately known to some as Allybat, and to others as Momma Crazy, was a headstrong woman and fierce example of Southern Charm. Her green thumb could revive even the saddest plants that her mother unsuccessfully put into a coma and she loved to give a snippet or clipping to anyone who would take one. Her cactus collection was infamous and absolutely dominated the spare bedroom every winter as they soaked up the sun and stayed warm. She took pride in growing some of the best hot peppers, some of which were hot enough to make grown men cry. If she wasn't handing off a plant for you to care for, she was cooking (or fixin') you something. Her soups were her passion, and she was her own worst critic. We would love every soup she would make, but she would say, " it needed something else." We all know she was just being humble and her soups warmed our bellies and our souls. If you were ever fortunate to attend a horse show with the woman, you've had her world famous pimento cheese and chicken salad, which she graciously gave to anyone and everyone that would stop by our humble little H&H setup.

Mom raised us girls to be just as fierce and outspoken as she was. We are proud to be the independent women that she encouraged us to be, and we can only continue her legacy of strength and kindness by passing it onto her beautiful grandbabies, who she adored and loved so much.

She was born April 30, 1958 in Palm Beach, FL, the daughter of the late Kenneth E. High and Sandra Felix High.

Allyson is survived by her husband, Dale Johnson; daughters, Courtney Samulik (Kevin, Jr.), Elizabeth “Biss” Kistler (Trent), Nicole Johnson; grandchildren, Cameron Samulik, Korben Samulik, Kaitlyn Kistler, Owen Kistler, Jordan Brooks, Justin Gonci and Payton Gonci; brother, Ernie High; many extended family members and friends.
