Berta Mae Harts Tompkins, 81, of Rocky Point passed from her earthly life on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at Liberty Commons Nursing Center, Wilmington, NC.
She was born March 2, 1939 in Pender County, the daughter of Clifton James and Dorothy Mae White Harts. In addition to her parents, Berta is preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter W. Tompkins; granddaughter, Amy Cameron; and brother-in-law, Bill Jonkheer.
Berta is survived by her sons, Cliff Tompkins and wife, Terri, and Curtis Tompkins; granddaughter, Stacy Tompkins; grandson-in-law, Steven Cameron; great-grandchildren, Justin and Jacob Cameron and Anna and Bobbi Jones; sister, Annette Jonkheer; and many extended family and friends.
Berta retired as a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service and was a long time member of Pike Rocky Point Presbyterian Church. In her spare time, she loved to make and design various types of crafts. Berta was always known as a very giving person who dearly loved her family.
A Celebration of Berta’s Life will take place at a later date.
