Betty Jean (Bowden) Wainwright

     Betty Jean Bowden Wainwright, age 83, on Friday, January 17, 2025 went to Glory where she was welcomed by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and those gone before her.

     She was born November 16, 1941, the daughter of Arthur Ray Bowden and Sallie Williams Bowden. In addition to her parents Betty was predeceased by her husband, Melvin Wainwright; daughter, Betty Sue Williams (Richard); brothers, Donald, Jesse Ray, and Ronnie Bowden; and sister-in-law, Kay Bowden.

     Betty is survived by her daughter, Virginia Harrington; grandchildren, Kristi Harrington (Timothy Smith), Jake Barrineau, and Annmarie Gregory; great grandchildren, Kaleb, Ryley, Lainey, Skylar, and Kinley; brother, Roger Bowden; sister-in-law, Glenda Bowden; special friends, John and Lori Davis; many nieces, nephews and friends.

     Betty possessed a truly green thumb and enjoyed growing and sharing her flowers. Being very family oriented, Betty loved family gatherings. She was a devoted wife and helpmate to Melvin, a loving and caring mom, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. Betty will be remembered for the twinkle in her eye, thoughtfulness toward others, and her steadfast faith in Jesus. Betty was loved and will be greatly missed.

     The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2025 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Gardner Eakins will conduct the service.

     Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Melvin.

     Betty’s family would like to express their sincere thankfulness to the staff of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington for the excellent care given to Betty and to them, her family. They felt love, caring, and support through their entire journey at the center.
