Billy Holmes Cavenaugh

Billy Holmes Cavenaugh, age 87, of the Northeast Community, Wallace, NC left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Friday, October 13, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on April 6. 1936 in Duplin County; the son of the late Paul M. and Ethel English Cavenaugh. Billy was also predeceased by his son-in-law Allen Lee and grandson-in-law Ryan Jones.

Billy proudly served his country in the United States Army in Korea.  He was a lifelong member of Northeast Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. 

Surviving to cherish his memory is his soulmate and wife of 65 years, Evelene Hatcher Cavenaugh; his son, Billy Warren Cavenaugh and wife Allison of Wallace; his daughters, Tammy C. Parker and husband C.E. of Beulaville and Paula C. Lee of Clinton; grandchildren, Josh Cavenaugh, Will Cavenaugh, Amanda Jones, Riley Pate and husband Stephen, Ellis Parker and wife Makayla, Kyle Lee and fiancé Cassie Bradshaw and Megan Crespo and husband Manuel “Sparky”; great grandsons, Corbin, Bennett, Oakley, Eli, Axel, Brantley, Cooper, Wyatt and baby boy Stetson Pate who will be arriving in January; brother Joseph J. Cavenaugh and wife Judy of Wallace; sister, Annie Elizabeth Lanier of Richmond, Virginia; his and Evelene’s feline furry friends, “Sue” and “Pete”; numerous extended family and friends that loved Billy dearly.

Billy was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather and brother.  He was a simple man who enjoyed the simplest things in life, but his greatest joy was family.  With a kind heart and witty personality, Billy was a people’s person who loved to talk and discuss the affairs of the world with family and friends.  To Billy, there is no other vehicle, but a Ford and he would let you know it. Billy was a good man who loved his family and community.  With a great love for his country, he was proud to be an American veteran.  Billy will surely be missed and treasured memories of him will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with Reverend Durwood Maready and Reverend Kevin Peterson officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Sunday. 

Burial will follow at Cavenaugh Cemetery, Wallace, NC 

Casketbearers will be Kyle Lee, Ellis Parker, Steven Pate, Sparky Crespo, Josh Cavenaugh and Will Cavenaugh. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Northeast PFWB Church, 129 Hanchey Rd, Wallace, NC 28466.
