Brian Earl Fitzpatrick, age 65, of Wilmington (formerly of Charlotte) left this earthly life for his eternal home on Saturday, September 24, 2022.
He was born March 14, 1957 in Washington County, Ohio to William Edward and Doris Rose Fitzpatrick. In addition to his father, Brian was preceded in death by his father-in-law Ben Jessup and his infant niece Shannon Fitzpatrick.
Brian is survived by his wife of 30 years, Leslie Jessup Fitzpatrick of the home; mother Doris Fitzpatrick of Parkersburg, WV; brothers Gerald “Jerry” Fitzpatrick and wife Debra of Hebron, KY and Mark Fitzpatrick and wife Linda of Keswick, VA; sister-in-law Angela Partin and husband Tom of Richlands; brother-in-law Robert Jessup and partner Mike of Atlanta, GA; nephews Ryan Fitzpatrick and partner James of Atlanta, GA, Kevin Fitzpatrick and wife Mimi of Charlottesville, VA, Eric Partin and wife Amanda of Wilmington and Matthew Partin of Richlands; a great niece and great nephew Maggie and Cormac Fitzpatrick; and many aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.
Brian graduated from West Virginia University with a B.S in Electrical Engineering and after graduating moved to Charlotte, NC, where he enjoyed a 30-year career with IBM. It was through a mutual friend at IBM that Brian met his wife, Leslie. Brian cherished family and always made it a priority to be at family reunions, celebrations, and holiday gatherings. Brian was an avid golfer, sailor, kayaker and snow skier before illness prevented these activities. He loved traveling, especially to the beach, enjoyed pulling for his Mountaineers and Carolina Panthers, loving on his cats, and singing along to country music.
Brian loved the Lord and his church family. He was a member of First Baptist Charlotte, where he served as deacon ministering to many families and on numerous committees over the years. Brian and Leslie greatly appreciated the love, encouragement, prayer and support they received from their church family, particularly as Brian journeyed through various illnesses the last 13 years of his life.
Brian enjoyed people and people enjoyed being around Brian. He was a good listener, a quiet person with a dry sense of humor who could keep you laughing, but the characteristic that most impacted those that met and knew him was Brian’s acceptance of the Lord’s will for his life and how he fought each and every battle with great grace and humility, always trusting in his Lord.
Brian was the blessed recipient of a liver transplant in 2010 and he and his family will forever be grateful for the donor family’s gift of such great love. The family is also very appreciative of the wonderful care Brian received over the years from his healthcare providers in both Charlotte and Wilmington.
In accordance with Brian’s wishes, the family will hold a private service to celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given online or by mail to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401 or to a church or charity of the donor’s choice.
