A kind and gentle soul, a gracious and loving lady, Carolyn Barnhill Flynn, entered eternal rest on Friday morning, September 23, 2022 at the age of 88. She was born October 26, 1933 in Bladenboro to Lacy Ray Barnhill and Miami Barnhill Devane. In addition to her parents Carolyn was preceded in death by her brother, Dewey Barnhill.
Mrs. Flynn was retired from J. C. Penny Company in Wilmington after 25 years in office management.
Mrs. Flynn was a faithful member of Caswell Presbyterian Church where she has served as elder, church treasurer, and in many other capacities.
Surviving is her loving family; her husband of 71 blessed years, John “Blue” James Flynn; daughters, Chris Flynn Shelnut and husband, Rob, of Deerfield Beach, Florida, Cheryl Flynn Squires and husband, Mike, of Ivanhoe, and Terri Flynn Smith and husband, Kirk, of Greenville; grandchildren, Travis Lanier, Tracie Hall (Bill), Julie Squires Lamb (Wayne) Michael Squires (Anna), Alex Smith and Wesley Smith: eight great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; brother, Danny Wayne Barnhill; sister-in-law, Marie Barnhill Medlin (Kenneth); and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Carolyn was a loving wife and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed traveling, crafts, and planting flowers in spring. In her later years she enjoyed trips and having fun with her "Red Hat" sisters.
The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2022 at Caswell Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall with service beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Dr. Martha Highsmith will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Haw Bluff Baptist Church Cemetery.
