Carrie Mae Wells Owens, 91, passed peacefully to her heavenly home on Saturday, May 31, 2025 to join her beloved husband, Alfred.
She was born September 26, 1933 in Pender County, the daughter of Woodrow Wilson and Lucy Gurganous Wells. In addition to her parents Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Owens; and sister, Effie Joyce Bertmeyer.
Carrie Mae is survived by children, Karen Pate (Wayne), Charles Owens, Penny Currier (Vance), and Gayle Crabbe (Allan), grandchildren, Jennifer Davis (Dave), Eric Pate (Ren), Crystal Currier, Jason Crabbe (Brittany), and Johnathan Crabbe (Alexandra); great grandchildren, Stella, Cora, Emma, and Zachary; brother, Marvin Wells (Betty Joyce); and sister, Shelby Claussen; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was a devoted wife, dedicated mother, and homemaker. Carrie, a Christian woman, was a faithful and supportive member of Coras Grove church. She devoted her talents and love for others to serve the churches she attended throughout her lifetime. She took on active roles from teaching Sunday school, church treasurer, and greeting newcomers. She loved to host and decorate wedding and baby showers as well as other events. Carrie was a virtuous and admirable woman of faith and lived her life with a significant spiritual foundation. "We honor her for all her hands have done and let her works bring her praise at the city gate."
There will be a viewing at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Chaplain Miles Siler will conduct the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
