Charles Troy Obituary

Charles (Charlie) Richard Troy, age 72, of Wallace, NC, left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 from New Hanover Regional Medical Center.  Charlie was born on March 1, 1948 in Berwick PA; the son of the late Charles and Geraldine Long Troy.

After completing high school, Charlie served his country proudly in the United States Army where he served until he was injured in battle and received a Purple Heart.  After recuperating from his injuries, Charles attended the University of Missouri where he studied English.  Following the receipt of a masters' degree, he began working for the United States Government and served in various roles for over thirty years.  In 2013, Charlie retired from the department of Citizenship & Immigration Services in NYC and settled in Wallace, NC where he continued to serve his county throughout retirement through various veterans organizations.  As an active member of the Purple Heart  society, he was a proud American and cherished spending time with fellow veterans in the Beirut Memorial Chapter #642 of Jacksonville, NC.

“Rick” as he was affectionately called by his family, was a devoted husband and caring father, brother, and uncle.  He enjoyed both the simple and fine things in life including good food, wine, reading and traveling. He was an avid sports fan especially for his home teams the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies but his greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.   Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Enrica Miele Troy of Wallace, NC; daughter, Elisabeth Troy of Wilmington; son, Thomas Troy of New Jersey; sisters, Judy Wilson and Linda Sue Shuman, both of Berwick, PA; and numerous (great) nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania, Georgia and New York.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace, NC. They will also receive friends from 9:00 to 10:45a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Transfiguration of Jesus Catholic Church in Wallace, NC followed by a Mass at 11:00a.m. at the church.

Graveside service will be held with Military Honors at North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 12 Noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial gifts be given to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 or online at woundedwarriorproject.org.  This was a favorite charity of Charlie.
