Corey James Atkinson

Corey James Atkinson, 55, of Wilmington, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington.

He was born on May 19, 1969, in North Tonawanda, New York, to the late Ronald and Henrietta (Opalinski) Atkinson.

Corey, a master griller, loved entertaining family and friends. His interests included muscle car restoration, woodworking and bowling. He had a heart of gold and was willing to help anybody in need. Corey was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (Rhine) Atkinson; daughter, Mckenzie Murray; stepson, Terry Ramsey and wife, Judy; brother, Scott Atkinson, and wife, Roberta; grandchildren, Katelyn Ramsey, Dennis Lynch, Jacob Locklear, Kyle Ramsey; brother-in-law, Gary Burrows; sisters-in-law, Penelope Riggs, Cindy Fairfax; nieces, Lisa Ferree, Erin Jankowiak; and his beloved dog, Daisy.

In addition to his parents, Corey was also predeceased by his brother, David Michael Atkinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Corey’s honor to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Wounded Warrior Project.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington with Pastor Jim Newkirk officiating. Celebration of life will follow the service from 2:30 – 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
