Curly Van Buren Watkins

Curly Van Buren Watkins, age 74, of Wallace passed from his earthly life for his eternal rest on Friday, August 16, 2019.

He was born on January 17, 1945 in Duplin County and was the son of the late Leonard Van Buren and Edna Evelyn Hatcher Watkins.  He was also predeceased by his sister, Mary Evelyn Watkins and brother, Kilby Woodrow Watkins, Sr. 

Surviving to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 51 years, Catherine Owens Watkins; his children, Carol W. Kelley and husband, Maurice, Christopher Dale Watkins and wife, Kelly and Clarissa Lynn Watkins; all of Wallace; grandchildren, Briley Kelley, Brianna Kelley, Brailan Kelley, Dustin Watkins and Layton Watkins; special sisters-in-law, Betty Brown and husband, Dan and Melva Rochelle; his friend, Hollywood; his four-legged granddog, "Abby"  and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved him dearly.

Curly was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and friend.  He was a hard worker and great provider for his family.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with family.  Thanksgiving and Christmas were his favorite time of the year; a time of family gatherings and lots of good eating.  Curly loved his John Deere tractor and constantly kept his garden immaculate with it.   He was a hard worker who never complained and got the job done.  Being a man of great integrity, Curly taught his children great work ethics and how to live among family and friends.  Curly will surely be missed but treasured memories of him will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.  

There will be a graveside service at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Brice's Cemetery in Wallace, NC 

The family will receive friends from 10:00am  to 11:00am on Tuesday,  one hour prior to the graveside service at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home of Wallace. 

Casketbearers will be Dustin Watkins, Layton Watkins, Briley Kelley, Kilby Watkins, Jr., Michael Cavenaugh and Hollywood.

Honorary casketbearers will be Brailan Kelley and Dan Brown.
