Daniel Alexander Roberts, 37, died unexpectedly in his sleep due to an ongoing seizure disorder, Dec 5, 2024, in Wilmington, NC.
A devoted father, Daniel, considered his most important job in life to be caring for his three-year-old son, Cooper Roberts. The simple pleasures of playing with Cooper by endlessly racing Hot Wheels, creating balloon animals, or reading “one more book” to his son brought Daniel joy.
Daniel, aka Dan the Man, had a strict credo: spend time with Cooper as often as possible, celebrate the holidays with a live Christmas tree (always), revere Elvis as the forever King, no film tops The Godfather, and pit bulls are the teddy bears of the dog world.
Although born Aug 19, 1987, in Rocky Mount, NC, Daniel moved here with his family at 7 and considered Wilmington his hometown. He embraced the beach life stye, growing up wearing Rainbows and surfing at Wrightsville Beach almost daily.
Along his path to become Eagle Scout, Daniel enjoyed all that Troop 26 at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church offered. A valuable troop member from Cub Scouts through Boy Scouts, he led in every rank, earning Order of the Arrow, going to both Philmont and the National Scout Jamboree, and becoming an award-winning Grass Dancer. He spent three summers teaching younger scouts as counselor at Camp Bowers. A testimony to his love of the outdoors was camping over 365 nights before he was 18.
Daniel loved movies. He could be counted on for perfect recommendations and discussed fluently a film’s merits, casting decisions, and director’s creative decisions.
His ability to multitask and get the job done served him well working in various area restaurants, enjoying creating a variety of menus.
He adopted the pelican as his spirit animal since he too valued community and teamwork, diving in to help any in need whether family, friend, or stranger. He was never too busy to stop and take time to lend a hand. This carried into his mission of bringing back to health neglected and abused pups. He loved nature and especially appreciated the wonder of a beautiful sunrise or sunset.
He leaves us with such loving memories of our times together, his charismatic personality, and his engaging sense of humor. We will never forget his “Roberts’ charm” and sweet, enduring smile. We regret he will never be able to fulfill his potential with his many talents and artistic ability.
Survivors include his son Cooper Roberts; his parents, Robby and Kim Roberts (Wilmington); his sister Madison Roberts and husband Richard Mclane (Raleigh); and countless family and friends.
As he had requested, Daniel’s ashes, intermingled with the ashes of his beloved dogs Otis, Gator, and Birdie, will be interned in the ocean in a private ceremony.
An Open House Visitation to share memories of Daniel will be on Saturday, December 21st, 2024 from 3-5pm at 25 Partridge Road Wilmington, NC 28412.
