David "DW" "Pops" Wayne Phillips

     David Wayne Phillips, age 68, aka DW, aka Pops, departed this world on Tuesday, October 8th 2024 in the comfort of his home in Burgaw, NC.

     David was a proud father and grandfather,  and he was a devoted husband who loved his wife dearly. He was born on March 2, 1956, in Missouri, but found his love for the beach early on in life. He spent most of his years on a beach somewhere but called North Carolina beaches home. His favorite past time was to walk Onslow beach while holding his wife’s hand. He completed two careers, retiring from the US Marine Corps as a Master Sergeant and from NC Department of Corrections as an officer. Both of his careers were in food service and totaled 40+ years, but to his family he was always “Just a Cook."

     David was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Elsie Louree Phillips; sisters, Anita Theel  and Cheryl Standridge; brothers-in-law, Jack Martin and Myron Theel.

     He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Phillips; sons, Adam Phillips (Latasha) and Alex Phillips (Grace) and Mitchell Landreth; daughters, Amey Jones (Everett)  and Sydney Slusser (Evan); grandchildren, Aubrey, Anna, Adley, and Allie Phillips and Cale, Carson, and Ashtyn Jones; sisters, Louise Manning and Terry Martin; and a host of nieces and nephews.

     Words cannot express how truly amazing and wonderful David was. He will be forever missed.
