Deane Edgar Pigford

     Deane Edgar Pigford, age 78, passed from his earthly life Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Novant Health NHRMC.

     He was born March 30, 1947 in Wilmington, the son of Herman Hill Pigford and Mildred Evans Pigford. In addition to his parents Deane was preceded in death by his son, Roy Ritterbusch, Jr.; grandson, Brent Ritterbusch; and twin brother, Gene Pigford.

     Deane is survived by his wife of 36 years, Patricia “Pat” Pigford; daughter, Amy Blackstock (Jon); sons, Eddie Deane Lanier (Michelle) and William Carter (Mandy); grandchildren, Walter Pigford, Parker Lanier, London Lanier, Christian Ritterbusch, Trey Ritterbusch (Haelei), Lauren Ritterbusch (Mylez), Kristyn Padgett (Weston), Mitchell Carter, Jack Blackstock, Paul Blackstock,  Marrissa Watts (Steven), Raven Flowers, Hunter Moss, John Silk, and Joey Howe; numerous great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Donna Pigford and many extended family and friends.

     After graduating from college Deane became owner of his own painting company. It takes a special talent to be a good painter and Deane earned that outstanding reputation. Deane attended Willard Baptist Church and Forest Hills Baptist Church.

     For many years Deane enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was proud to be a part of The Way Riders Motorcycle Club Ministries. That ministry was a big part of his Christian life. Dean also enjoyed a good game of golf, fishing, and playing cards with friends. Deane was an all-around good man, but most of all he loved and cared for his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving dad, and a very special granddad. His bigger than life presence in our lives will truly be missed. 

    The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Willard Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. The Rev. David Knowles will conduct the service. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
