Dorothy "Dot" "Fuzzy" Johnson Hathaway

     Dorothy “Dot” Johnson Hathaway, 92, of Atkinson and formerly of Wilmington passed gently from her earthly life Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at The Laurels of Pender in Burgaw.

     She was born November 26, 1929 in Wilmington, the daughter of Paul M. Johnson, Sr. and Lucy Council Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Flora J. Dawson and Doris J. Walton (twin sister); and brothers, Paul M. Johnson, Jr. and Wilbur C. Johnson.

     Dorothy is survived by many nieces and nephews; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews; and her beloved Moores Creek Baptist Church family.

     In her younger years Dot, affectionately known as Fuzzy, lived in Wilmington and worked in a optometrist office for over 30 years. Because she lived in what was then "rural" Wilmington, she was able to have all of her horses and animals with her. As Wilmington began to develop and grow,  she decided to purchase a home in the country with acreage near Atkinson for herself and her animals. Dot also found a church home out in the country, Moores Creek Baptist Church. The folks at Moores Creek took Fuzzy under their wings, loved her and cared for her as she grew older. Fuzzy picked out the picture of her and her horse on the website. Fuzzy had a special place in her heart for all of God's creatures which was evident by all animals she cared for through the years. Fuzzy's quick wit, sense of humor, independent nature, and most of all her faith in Jesus Christ will long be remembered.

     A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Moores Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Roger Barnes conducting the service.
