Edward J. Braks, 77, of Wallace, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2020 at home in the presence of Fran, his wife of fifty-six years. Edward battled cancer for the past four years. Born in Yonkers, New York, on October 15, 1942 to Edward and Martha Reynolds Braks, Edward graduated from Roosevelt High School and Manhattan College. He married his long-time sweetheart, Frances Ward on June 27, 1964. They moved to Connecticut in 1977 and Rhode Island in 1990 before relocating to North Carolina in 2010.
After graduating from college, Edward joined a predecessor firm to Deloitte & Touche, and he served two years in the U. S. Army, including a one-year tour in Viet Nam. After the Army, he rejoined the firm and was appointed a partner in 1977. He joined Old Stone Bank as Chief Financial Officer in 1990 and then Arpin Group and Arpin Van Lines as Chief Financial Officer in 1995. Edward eventually retired in September 2015.
Edward and Fran were enthusiastic sailors, which led them to form the Long Island Sound Sabre Association for which Edward served as Commodore for three years. Edward was also an avid reader and enjoyed golfing and biking. He collected model trains and built an extensive working model train layout in his home. Edward was a member of the River Landing Club Associate Board of Directors for four years and served as Chairman for two years. He also was on the board of the Men’s Golf Association and Treasurer for two years.
In addition to his wife, Edward is survived by his sister Elaine (Neil) Ginsberg, widow of his late brother Richie, Barbara Braks, and nephews Eloy Caracuel, Martin Caracuel, Michael Caracuel, Joseph Caracuel and Brian Ginsberg and niece, Maria Caracuel.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 6, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Wallace Chapel.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Transfiguration of Jesus Catholic Church, Main Street, Wallace, NC at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2020.
Interment will take place on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla, New York.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing will be practiced as well as only a small number of people allowed at one time inside the funeral home and church. No more than 25 people will be allowed on the grounds at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
