Edward Lonnie Price, lovingly known simply as “Lonnie,” of Willard, NC, passed away in the early hours of September 7, 2025, at the age of 61.
Lonnie was born on September 12, 1963, in Pooler, GA, to Robert Price Jr. and Barbara Ann Bergemann Price. From an early age, he carried a spirit of determination, faith, and love that shaped every part of his life.
He was the devoted husband of Sharon Renee King Price, the love of his life, whom he adored more than anything. Theirs was a storybook love that clearly written by God. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and unconditional love.
Lonnie was a proud and loving father to his daughter, Lynnette Price Johnson of Saxapahaw, NC, and her husband Fred Johnson, as well as his son, Joshwa Lee Price of Willard, NC, and Joshwa’s fiancée, Ashley Crews. To his grandchildren—Kaitlyn Johnson, Addison Price, and Atticus Price—he was affectionately known as “Poppy,” a role that brought him some of his greatest joy.
He is also survived by his brothers and sister—Ronnie, Robert, Johnny, Angie, and Ernie—each of whom shared a special bond with him. To them, Lonnie was not just a brother but a protector, a source of laughter, and a steady presence they could always count on. His love for them was as strong as his loyalty, and that bond will remain unbroken.
Family to Lonnie went beyond blood. He considered his best friend, Sonny Robertson, to be his brother. Sonny, his wife Sharon, and their children—Teshia, James, and Tyler—were as much a part of Lonnie’s heart and family as anyone born into it.
Lonnie’s greatest love was always his family, but he also found joy in the game of football and in the freedom of riding motorcycles. To many, he will always be remembered as “Coach Lonnie,” a name that spoke to the impact he had on countless lives. His life touched people from every walk of life, and he will be remembered as a man who gave his heart freely and fully. It is safe to say he never met a stranger, and he was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back—and often did—for anyone in need.
Above all, Lonnie loved God. A member of Willard Baptist Church, his strong faith guided him, and his legacy of devotion, strength, and love will continue to shine through those who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Price Jr. and Barbara Ann Bergemann Price.
A service to celebrate Lonnie’s life will be held 2:00pm on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Willard Baptist Church, 45 Willard Railroad Street, Willard, NC with Pastor David Knowles officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor the memory of a man whose faith and love for family left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
