Obituary
Elizabeth Jones Herring, age 89 years, left her earthly life for her eternal rest on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Woodbury Wellness in Hampstead.
She was born July 29, 1934 in Wallace, the daughter of Willie D. Cavenaugh and Ruby J. Cavenaugh Adcox. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Garnie S. Herring, Jr. and son, Christopher S. Herring.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her son, Rev. Michael Dunn Herring (Beth) of Salisbury; daughter, Betsy H. Melton (Perry) of Sneads Ferry; daughter-in-law, Susan Herring; grandchildren, Jon-Michael Herring (Meagan), Daniel Herring (Katie), Samantha Melton Smith (Jeremey), and Benjamin Melton; great grandchildren, Logan, Spencer, Camden, Hayden, and Myla Gray; many extended family and friends.
Elizabeth was a faithful member of Burgaw Baptist Church. She was an avid bridge player (the last member of the Becker Bridge Club in Burgaw), loved traveling and enjoyed the beach.
Elizabeth was a lady of uncommon character, beauty, and grace; an instrument of God’s love on this earth. A loving wife and a caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved life, lived each day to the fullest, and will be remembered for her enduring love and care of her family and friends.
A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Riverview Memorial Park with her son, the Rev. Michael Herring conducting the service. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the graveside service.
