Elsie Housand Garner, age 92, passed peacefully from her long and full earthly life on Friday, January 3, 2025.
Elsie was born in Holly Springs, NC. She married her first husband, Wilber Lee Housand, on June 19 1948. Their marriage lasted over 52 years until his passing in January 2001. They raised three children, Jackie, Jerry and Jean primarily in Cleveland and Chatham, Ohio after her husband found work as a roofer in Cleveland. Beyond being a wife and mother, Elise also made her mark as a very successful realtor for Century 21. After retiring, she and her husband, Wilbur, moved to Rocky Point, NC. She loved fishing. She would go fishing anywhere and at any time. Some of her best family stories involved fishing with her mother. She also loved to travel. She traveled to many places including to Hawaii and London, England. After she married her second husband, Thomas Garner, they took many family vacations and enjoyed trips in their RV. Those memories also provided her with comfort when her health no longer allowed her to do the things she loved. Elsie left a wonderful legacy of a large family who loved her dearly, and all of whom benefited from her wisdom and her spirit for living a life well lived.
Elsie is survived by her husband, Thomas Garner; son, Jerry Housand (Glenda); daughter, Jean Beach (Sharon Essick); grandchildren, Daryl Weber (Lisa), Michelle Dotter (Floyd), Monica Ristau, Jeramy Housand (Emma), Glenn Housand (Amanda), Josh Housand, Jennifer Federonco (John Paul), Scott Beach (Jennifer); 13 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; brothers, Thomas Bridgers (Peggy), and Tony Bridgers; many extended family members and friends.
Elsie will be laid to rest in Antioch Cemetery in Loris, South Carolina beside her husband, Wilbur, at a later date.
