Ernest Henry Garbade, 79, of Oak Island, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at home.

He was born on February 16, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio, to Ernest Edward Garbade and the late Freda Louise (Tolle) Garbade.

Ernie, a former member of the Epiphany Lutheran Church in Springboro, OH, was a technical writer for Pitney Bowes at the time of his retirement. He was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed yardwork, hiking, bicycling, and astronomy. Ernie was very handy around the house with most repairs. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Margaret Gerst Scharrer; his sons, Ernest Albert Garbade, Karl Victor Garbade and wife, Lydia; his daughter, Maggie Jessica Garbade; his father, Ernest Edward Garbade; and his granddaughter, Luna Garbade.

In addition to his mother, Ernie was also preceded in death by his sister, Pamela Holbrook.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Crooked Run Cemetery in Willard with Pastor Robert Williams and Pastor Clayton Williams officiating.
