Obituary

Eugene \\"Punk\\" Ramsey, 91, of Burgaw passed peacefully from his earthly life to his Heavenly home on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at his home with family by his side.

He was born May 27, 1919 in Pender County to Henry Burton and Henrietta Murray Ramsey. Also lovingly remembered are his wife of 27 years, Jewel Strickland Ramsey; daughter, Peggy Ramsey Bill; grandson, Brantley Johnson, and siblings, J. D. Ramsey, Carl Ramsey, Marie Collins, Vermadine "Mutt" Ramsey and Eleanor Robinson, all who preceded Eugene in death.

Surviving are his children, Joyce R. Rivenbark (Allen) of Burgaw and William "Billy" Ramsey (Joy) of Wallace; step-children, Wendy V. Rivenbark (Timmy) of Burgaw, Curtiss Vann (Lorrie) of Castle Hayne, Mary V. Parker (David) of Burgaw and Douglas L. Davis (Mabel) of Rocky Point; 12 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; sisters, Lillian Taylor of Mobile, Alabama, Carolyn Batts and Delores Brown both of Burgaw; brothers, Kenneth "Bud" Ramsey of Burgaw and Lewis Ramsey of Rocky Point and many nieces and nephews.

Eugene was a member of Castle Hayne Baptist Church and was retired from the NC Department of Transportation.

He loved his family and showed his love in his own special way. Being an avid outdoorsman, Eugene enjoyed puttering around in his garden and all of nature that his God has made. He was mechanical minded and was able to fix most anything. Eugene was a very strong willed man, never giving up easily; his faith sustained him through a lengthy illness and peaceful passing.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 23, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Pastor Billy Fowler and Pastor Curtiss Vann officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. Casketbearers will be Mike Parker, Doug Davis, David Parker, David Eason, Lee Bain and Andrew Hanchey.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
