Eva Rogers Obituary

Eva Mae Rogers, age 82, of Sneads Ferry, NC left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Friday, September 3, 2021.

She was born on July 20, 1939, in Sampson County and was the daughter of the late William Mott and Annie Odell Smith Mott. Eva was also preceded in death by her first husband, Dawsey Troy Atkinson, her second husband, Ralph Decatur Rogers; son, Albert “Troy” Atkinson; daughters, Anita “Gail” Cyr and Eva “Ann” Underwood and siblings, William Lee Mott, John Henry Mott, Annie Lou Johnson and Bobby Odell Mott.

Surviving to cherish her memory is her daughter, Brenda Kay Byrd of Sneads Ferry; her son, James William Atkinson and wife Holly of Sneads Ferry;  eleven grandchildren – Shanon Cavenaugh, Adam Cavenaugh (Anh), Amanda Cavenaugh Smith (Greg), Ashlea Quinn Lathrop (Thomas), Harrison Quinn (Laury), Christopher Paschal, Amos Atkinson, Alisha Atkinson Champion, Alexis Atkinson, Jamie Atkinson Moore (Shane), Jayna Atkinson; seventeen great grandchildren, ten great great grandchildren; siblings, J.W. “Buddy” Mott, Carolyn Mott Cox and Nellie Mott Savage; and numerous extended family and friends that loved Eva.

Eva was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, and GG. She was also a strong lady who worked hard to help provide for her family by working on farms and growing her own garden and crops to feed her family. Eva had a green thumb, and a deep knowledge of how to grow vegetables and be a good steward of the land. Eva was proud of this, and she passed this knowledge to her children and grandchildren. Being a great cook, Eva made the best buttermilk biscuits in the world. She would make ‘snake biscuits’ for her grandchildren, and even continued to make ‘snakes’ for them as they grew up to be adults. She knew they loved them, and their joy brought her joy.  Eva was a good mother and grandmother who taught others by example.  She left a great legacy to those of us left behind - “Plant a seed and watch it grow.” This can be true in all walks of life. Eva will surely be missed but treasured memories, her great wisdom and strength, and her loving kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace, NC. Pastor Merrell McKoy will officiate the service.
