Evelyn Basden Walton

     A kind and gentle soul, a gracious and loving lady, Evelyn Basden Walton, entered eternal rest on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at the age of 93 at her home. She was born in Duplin County on May 5, 1930 to William and Lela Bostic Basden, living most of her wonderful life in the small town of Burgaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Walton; brother, Vernon “Red” Basden; and most recently her grandson, Matthew Turner.

     Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Pamela Anderson (Vincent); grandchildren, Ricky Turner and Amanda Turner; great grandchildren, Liam, Grayson, and Nehemiah; brother, Jimmy Basden; sister, Eleanor “Bunny” Lane (Billy); several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Jason Thompson; Evelyn’s angel, Shannon Thompson; and many friends all who adored Evelyn.

     Many remember always seeing Evelyn’s sunny smile at Dees Drug Store in Burgaw as she worked there for 58 years. Evelyn was a long time member of Burgaw Baptist Church.

     A favorite place to frequent was The Heritage Place in Burgaw where Evelyn played games, made crafts, ate lunch and had a great time fellowshipping with friends. Above all Evelyn loved and served her family. She was an outstanding Mama, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Loyal Friend. Evelyn’s sweet, sweet spirit will live on in the hearts of family and friends.

     The family will receive friends 10 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Burgaw Baptist Church Fellowship Hall with funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary, The Rev. Danny Justice will conduct the service.

     Interment will follow in Bostic Cemetery, Beulaville, NC.
