Fonzo Cook, 70, of Wilmington, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2019 at Brunswick Cove Living Center in Winnabow.
He was born July 17, 1948 in Shelby, NC to the late Lester Willard and Mary Watts Cook. Fonzo worked for Pat’s Tire Service and Browning Tire Town as a tire changer for over 40 years. He was the “fastest tire changer in the South”. An avid NASCAR fan, he never missed a race when Mark Martin was driving. He was a loving husband, father, and paw-paw, who will be missed by many.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Virginia Lee House Cook; and his grandchild, Cameron Lee Grubb.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Claude Cook; his daughters, Melissa Cook Grubb and her husband John, Mary Cook, and Kristina Walker; his brothers, Willie Cook, Lester Cook, Jr., and Jerry Cook; his sister, Mary Kay McDonald and her husband Michael; his grandchildren Carra Elizabeth Grubb, Nathan Walker, Jordan Green, and Brianah Walker; his brother-in-law, Timothy Mack House and his wife Gina; and his nieces, Samantha Johnson and Traci House.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Friday, July 19, 2019 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington with Reverend Charles Trull officiating. Burial will follow at Prospect cemetery.
